After struggling to decide what item to rebrand and turn into a luxury item, I have chosen Batchelors Super Noodles. The reason I have chosen this product is because they are sold by virtually every major supermarket chain, general groceries shops, and convenience stores. It is such a general product as well as being extremely cheap, around 81p per packet. Instant noodles are also used within prisons like a currency.
I think this juxtaposition of something known widespread as cheap being a household item, and making the design look more like a luxury product will be interesting. If it is successful it will show how design plays a big impact of making something look better than it is, and whether luxury is just based on design techniques and branding methods.
'Super Noodles is the brand name of a dehydrated instant noodle snack, made by Batchelors in the United Kingdom (previously made by Kellogg's) and sold under the McDonnells brand in Ireland. They are prepared by being placed in a saucepan of boiling water, adding the sachet of flavouring, and stirring. Super Noodles can also be cooked and prepared using a microwave oven.
The brand is currently owned by Premier Foods in the United Kingdom, and Boyne Valley Group in Ireland.'
